Success at last for Hertfordshire with an overall 22-17 win against Buckinghamshire at the Shamrock Club over the weekend, although three of the team drew we had a much improved performance from the Men's "A" team which ensured the overall win.
The Ladies "B" team drew 3-3 after being 3-0 down but good wins by Rita Brownless 3-1, Sue Jordan 3-0 and lady of the match Louise Pearson 3-0 gave the team a 3-3 draw.
The Men's "B" team lost the first two game but three good wins by Jason Neville 3-0, Mark Elliot 3-0 and Daniel Varney 3-1 gave us a 5-3 lead but another three disappointing losses gave the lead away but wins by Paul Oliver 3-1, man of the match Leigh Purkis 3-2 and Wayne Dawson 3-1 gave us a 6-5 lead but the best game of the day resulted in Andy Mackinnon losing 2-3 on the final double to give our opponents a 6-6 draw.
On Sunday another disappointing start with only Kathy Ovens winning 3-1 left us 1-3 behind but our top players came good with Jodie Alligan winning 3-0 and lady of the match Tara Deamer winning 3-2 brought us level at 3-3.
We wondered our the Men's "A" team would perform after recent recent efforts, losing the first game debutant Lee Marlow brought the scores level with a good 4-2 win then we had three unlucky losers but it did not deter David Mansfield from winning 4-1, Ian Clarkson had his moments winning 4-2, Lee White continued his unbeaten run by winning 4-2, returning to the team Alfie Smith duly obliged by winning 4-1, another defeat before match award winner Robin Wigg found his form again with a really excellent game winning 4-0 with a Divisonal award winning average of 29.47, this was followed by last man on Steve Hartley also winning 4-0 which gave the team a 7-5 win a very good overall team performance.
